Wonderful Wales

Hi, as a member of Macs Adventure's UK team, I have been lucky enough to explore the wonderful Pembrokeshire Coast Path in Wales and I wanted to share my experiences of Wonderful Wales. [caption id="attachment_17624" align="aligncenter" width="169"]Wales Enjoying my first day in the glorious & very warm sunshine[/caption] I love helping all you lovely people to enjoy walking holidays all over the UK, and I have spent many a day discovering the wonders of the West Highland Way and the Trossachs, but I would really consider myself to be a beginner in terms of multi-day long distance walking and my visit to Pembrokeshire was my first “official” long distance walking adventure. I loved every second of it. The itinerary I followed was our Best of Pembrokeshire, and the best it really is! Walking from Dale to St David’s I was able to enjoy friendly Welsh villages, stunning sea views, beautiful beaches and breath-taking, dramatic cliffs.  Every day there was yet another view that I declared to be the best I ever saw and despite taking hundreds of awesome pictures, none of them really managed to capture the true beauty of the area! Walking Day 1

The first days walking was from Dale to Marloes.  If im honest I found this day to be the hardest.  I did the long version where you walk right around the Dale Peninsula and then follow the coast path to Marloes Sands.  From here you can follow the road to Marloes or if you are still feeling energetic you can walk onto Martin’s Haven.  My top tip is to leave from Marloes Sands and arrive in time for an early dinner in Marloes at the Lobster Pot, and save room for pudding!!  The cheesecake was sooo good! Walking Day 2

I took an optional boat trip to Skomer Island, home to thousands of puffins who visit between the months of March – July to have their young chicks. It is extraordinary and although people travel to Skomer predominately to witness the puffins nested in the cliffs, there is also a huge array of other birdlife and also wonderful wild flowers on Skomer itself. My top tip for this day is if you are feeling a little tired, book one of the guided boat trips around the island. The guides are so informative and it is a fun way to rest up a little and learn more about the unique history and wildlife here. Day 3

I travelled from Marloes to my favourite welsh village, Littlehaven. Littlehaven is so quaint and pretty with a small sandy cove and lots of beautiful flowers on the traditional houses.  The village is very relaxed and was a welcome sight at the end of a long day.  My top tip for today is to leave a little early and spend some time at Musselwick Sands before heading off along the path, Musselwick was one of my favourite beaches with some of the most tremendous cliffs I have ever seen! Day 4

After a peaceful night in Littlehaven it was off to Solva.  Solva is another very pretty village with a beautiful harbour and great harbour cafe, it is a little of a longer day so a coffee and a big tasty cake will be well deserved. For those feeling a little tired on route, I would suggest a stop at the Mariner’s Inn at Nolton Haven for a quick drink and a bite to eat before tackling the rest of your day! Final Walking Day

My final walking day was from Solva to St David’s.  This is a very short day but having the extra time to explore St David’s was excellent.  St David’s is the smallest city in the UK and when you arrive you can book onto one of the many boat trips or head to beautiful St David’s Cathedral.  I personally found the visit to the cathedral to be very humbling and a great experience, it is definitely not to be missed! I hope this has gave you a small insight into how wonderful this walking area is. I can’t recommend it enough!  It is perfect for walkers of all abilities and can easily be designed to suit you. Please get in touch if you would like to know more, I will happily talk you through my adventure in much more detail. You can also see more about the walking holidays you could do in Pembrokeshire on our website at http://www.macsadventure.com/destinations/uk/wales/ [caption id="attachment_17625" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Wales A wee earned rest![/caption]
