Biking in Provence

  • Experience the best of Provence as you pedal between Avignon and Chateauneuf du Pape
  • Explore the rolling Provençal countryside dominated by lavender fields and vineyards
  • Wander the winding streets of Avignon—a UNESCO-listed city
  • Sample local cheeses and fresh cherries in L’Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue on market day
  • Savour the rich red wines of Chateauneuf du Pape synonymous with the region
Discover the best of Provence on this self-guided cycling tour beginning in the historic city of Avignon with rides in the beautiful Luberon Valley and past the renowned vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape. Enjoy the varied terrain of Provence on routes that lead you on a loop from the ancient Papal city of Avignon to the market towns of L’Isle-Sur-La-Sorgue and Bedoin via the delightful hilltop villages of Gordes and Roussillon both of which inspired Renaissance artists. Pedal through the undulating Provençal countryside on routes that have been designed to allow time for relaxing, sight-seeing, and visiting vineyards in the afternoon. Like much of France, the love of food and wine is deeply ingrained in the local culture, but is perhaps more refined here than anywhere else in the country. Overnight in elegant, yet relaxed, guest houses and B&B's run by local families, and enjoy the freedom of luggage transfers and optional high quality bike hire.
